GETS/WPS (Government Emergency Telephone System/Wireless Priority Service)
The Government Emergency Telecommunications Service (GETS) and Wireless Priority Service (WPS) are federal programs enforced by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Cybsecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA). GETS offers priority access to local and long-distance areas of landline telephone networks, with subscribers receiving a Personal Identification Number (PIN) to receive priority status on calls. WPS provides access to cellular networks during emergencies or network congestion by dialing the service code *272. Subscribers to GETS receive physical GETS cards (see links below). While GETS/WPS subscribers receive priority, their phone usage does not deny public access to telephone networks.
